This mixtape is a special blend for the 4th anniversary of blog.rebellen.info - a nice urban Blog outta Germany. The guys from Berlin love bass oriented music so we made this joint: dub, hip hop, electro boogie, nu jazz, nu disco... so turn on your speakers and feel the BASSES!
We dedicated the first Mixtape in this series to the fourth anniversary of Blogrebellen Kreuzberg (outta Berlin). The mix was an eclectic journey into the world of ‘BASSmusic’ with a dubby flavour: electro boogie, hip hop, nu jazz, nu disco… With Volume 2 we want to focus more on DUB music any kind: from traditional ‘versions’ (dub/instrumentals of Reggae-Singles) towards new productions – welcome to the echo chamber! Fantastisches neues Album von Me'Shell Ndegéocello
Das aktuelle Album dieser Ausnahmekünstlerin erinnert mich an ihr 1999er Werk 'Bitter'. Statt der avantgardistisch/jazzigen Ausflüge der letzten Alben präsentiert sich Me'Shell Ndegéocello auf "Weather" voller Folk-Sensibilität und wunderschöner Melodien, die sich bei mehrmaligen Hören immer mehr entfalten.
1993 debütierte sie als "angry young women" mit einem Mix aus Funk, Rock und HipHop. Ndegéocellos nach wie vor tiefe Stimme verfällt nun zum Teil in ein Flüstern und verrät uns fast fröhlich einige Geheimnisse, stilistisch ist das schon fast Popmusik. 13 Songs finden sich auf „Weather“ und neben der hohen musikalischen Qualität ist ihnen eins gemeinsam: ein Sog, dem man sich nur schwer entziehen kann.Dienstag, 20. Sie wendet sich in ihren Songs dagegen, Kinder leichtfertig aus ihren Familien wegzugeben, prangert die immer noch praktizierte Beschneidung an, spöttelt übers Zwangsheiraten und bedauert die afrikanischen Flüchtlinge, die auf ihren manchmal jahrelangen „Irrfahrten“ in den goldenen Westen nicht selten sogar ums Leben kommen.
Es wäre aber ein fataler Irrtum, „fatou“ für eine eher traurige Angelegenheit zu halten, denn Fatoumata Diawara ist kein gebrochener, sondern ein ausgesprochen lebensfroher Mensch. Ähnlich ihrem großen Vorbild Oumou Sangare, versucht sie ihre anspruchsvollen Texte mit rhythmisch mitreißenden, melodisch einprägsamen Eigenkompositonen an die Frau/den Mann zu bringen. Produzent Nick Gold hat den funkigen Wassolou-Sound mit schlichten Folk-Elementen und ein paar Jazz-Einsprengseln kombiniert, die Fatoumata Diawaras emotionsgeladene Stimme exzellent zur Geltung bringen.

R.I.P. Cesária Évora (1941-2011)
Sie verkaufte Millionen Platten und CDs, mit ihrer sanft-melancholischen Musik wurde Cesária Évora zum Star der Weltmusik. Jetzt ist die von den Kapverdischen Inseln stammende Künstlerin im Alter von 70 Jahren gestorben.
Aus diesem Anlass habe ich ein zwei schöne Remixe von ihren Songs ausgesucht:
